Frank Vigneron is a French ink artist who’s currently Chair Professor of Fine Art at Chinese University of Hong Kong. Considered one of the important pioneers of the Chinese contemporary ink movement, his meditative pen and ink paintings are pursuits in calm and harmony, inspired by traditional Confucian philosophies and Chinese aesthetics.
‘Le Songe Creux’ has been Frank’s life project since the 1980s. With thousands of lines coiling, layering and intertwining, the central focus of his paintings is, in fact, on the voids in between. When viewed closely, the map-like landscape is perceived as an abstract space that allows viewers to disconnect with the outside world and escape reality.
Frank has exhibited extensively in institutions across the world and made a lasting impact on many of Hong Kong’s emerging artists.
